A grade separation at Avenue 88 taking traffic over State Route 43, an existing rail line, and future high-speed rail line.
Along Avenue 88, east and west of State Route 43, in Tulare County.
In early September, crews shut down State Route (SR) 43 and placed 19 of the 20 girders needed to form the superstructure of the Avenue 88 grade separation. The shortest girders were nearly 59-feet long and weighed nearly 66,000 lbs. while the longest girders were about 142-feet long and weighed nearly 157,000 lbs. This is the first time girders were placed over a highway and the BNSF rail line in Construction Package 2-3.
When complete, the Avenue 88 Grade Separation will span approximately 485-feet long and will carry traffic over SR 43, BNSF freight lines, and high-speed rail lines.
